Online Store Features the Coolest Summer Fashions Benefiting AIDS Orphans
ATLANTA, April 23, 2004 -Kusini Africa, Corp. launched the company's online fashion accessories store, www.kusiniafrica.com, and kicked off its Aid for Africa campaign, which benefits children orphaned by AIDS on the continent. The Atlanta-based Kusini specializes in high-end handmade accessories, and will donate ten percent of all sales towards AIDS orphanages in Africa. Kusini's summer collection features beaded sandals and flip-flops, which are handcrafted by African artisans in the season's hottest colors, including gold.
Shoppers can log on to kusiniafrica.com and pick up the women's shoes, which range from $35 to $45, and come in a variety of glass and shell-beaded styles. In addition, they can learn about the AIDS orphan crisis in Africa and read up on the orphanages their purchases will be supporting.
"Kusini's collection offers style, quality and heart," said Nuru Mugambi, the company's spokesperson. "We're marketing to consumers who seek unique accessories, have an eye for fashion and are passionate about life. In the fall, our store will feature accessories for both women and men."
In addition to reaching consumers, Kusini is in the market for retailers to partner with; boutique owners and fashion retail buyers can obtain more information about sales opportunities from the company's site. As a social enterprise, Kusini also welcomes partnerships with not-for-profit and faith-based organizations interested in raising funds to combat the devastation millions of children in Africa face due to AIDS -the United Nations reports that more than eleven million African children under the age of fifteen have lost at least one parent to AIDS.
"This is a campaign with no end in sight," Mugambi said. Kusini Aid for Africa will kick off by supporting orphanages in the slums of Kenya, and then branch out to neighboring countries (Uganda and Tanzania) by early next year. The goal of the campaign is to support children throughout Africa, and ultimately around the world.
